Retention Ponds

That lake behind your house in Pinecrest, Doral, Miami Lakes, or (the mother load) Weston, isn't a lake at all but - much less romantically sounding - retention ponds. They're basically big drainage ditches and are why everything far inland isn't sitting in 3 feet of Everglades right now. But hey, they created new developable land, they're pretty, and when treated with enough chemicals they'll stay blue. [Sun Sentinel]
