Channel 10 News took a drive through the fully bored half of the PortMiami tunnel, with hardhats, safety vests and all, while Harriet, the tunnel-boring machine, is rebuilt to begin digging through the second tube. The first tube, although fully dug-through, is far from finished, however. The bottom third of the tube has to be filled in with concrete, to serve as a roadbed and ballast, five access passageways will be built from one tunnel to the other, and the entry portals on either end have to be built. Nobody sans hardhat will be driving through that thing until at least 2014.
