Before forking over 40 miles of free land along the BeachLine Expressway to complete the Florida East Coast Railway's 'All Aboard Florida' passenger rail service from Miami to Orlando, the Florida Department of Transportation is asking for competing bids. Although this may seem at first a tad like a slap in the face to the FEC, it's state law to make sure there are no better deals available before entering into an agreement like this. Plus, FDOT says a key to winning the bid would be to not ask for any state money, which the FEC hasn't asked for at all anyways. [Sun Sentinel]
