If you don't mind renting an overnight or short term room, apartment, entire house, or hey, even a houseboat, from a real person, then AirBnB - the start-your-own-BnB-in-your-guest-bedroom website - is totally the place for your. And it's got some spectacularly gorgeous listings for total bargains. Here's a large studio at the Carlyle Hotel on Ocean Drive for $98 a night, with fetching modern furniture, a separate bedroom area, a sofabed in the living room, and two convertible armchairs if you really want to pack 'em in. There's a balcony too.
Four quaint cottages from the 1920s and a two-story boathouse on the Little River are nestled in a little nature preserve called Magic City Farm. Each level of the boathouse sleeps three, for $100 a night, while each cottage sleeps two, for $85.
Here's a one bedroom condo on a high floor of the Shelborne Hotel for $129 a night, far less than what a room at the Shelborne would typically go for. It comes with all the hotel's amenities, and even the same decor as the hotel rooms, with a great view of the city and ocean.
This Wynwood artists loft on NW 20th Street is in an edgy spot for a vacation, but come at the right time (gallery night) and you'll be in the busy epicenter of Miami's art scene. It's huge, with 1300 square feet and 12 foot ceilings, but the owner warns: "This is no 'doorman' kinda hotel, where limos pull up front."
Back to South Beach, this Meridian Avenue duplex apartment in a small building is very new, with a double-height living room, a fancy-shmancy kitchen, and a circular staircase. It sleeps four people for $150 a night.
