By the end of the year, the last of 2,600 pillars will be driven into the ground at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport for its massive new South Runway according to the Sun Sentinel. The pillars, between 50 and 100 feet tall, will hold the runway above 12 tunnels passing over US-1, the FEC railroad tracks, Perimeter Road, and even another taxiway, but nobody will be flying off that thing for another 2 years. The runway opens September 2014.
