Mediterranean Magic City Set, with Ballroom, for $19.8 Million

New, 2 comments

This rambling, just a wee bit gaudy, Great-Gatsby-comes-to-Florida, time warp of a house on the Intracoastal Waterway is on the market for $19.8 Million. The 13 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms are all squeezed into about 18,000 square feet of living space, on an 80,000 square foot lot (an unusually grassy ratio for often-overbuilt private house lots in Miami Beach). It has four fountains, a playground, space for a 100 foot yacht, tromp l'oeil ceilings, a dock that's held up with Venetian gondolier's poles, a pool house, and what looks to be an outdoor dance floor in the courtyard. It was built in 1928 and, from the looks of things, has changed very little. Oh, and Clinton, Gorbachev, Netanjahu, Thatcher, and Kissinger have all eaten in the ballroom, according to the listing.

It was used as a set in two Magic City episodes. First, character Meg Bannock is seen around the pool at home, overlooking the Miramar Playa Hotel across the Intracoastal. Second, Meg has lunch at Miami Beach's historic Bath Club, but it's actually the ballroom at 4821.
