If the Opa-Locka Community Redevelopment Corporation is successful, Opa-Locka's notorious "Triangle" could soon be a revitalized artsy community, with sculptural gateways by four teams of artists and a new name: "Magnolia North." The area was so crime ridden in the 1980s, that a metal barricade was built around the perimeter. Getting past that no-man's-land reputation, and the isolation of a giant fence, are part of the corporation's broader goals to beautify Opa-Locka, provide better housing options, and improve economic opportunity.
