Dadeland Mall has started construction on its 100,000 square foot outdoor restaurant (6 of them) and shopping annex (up to 20 new stores) with catwalks, and promenades meant to open up the mall to Kendall Drive. The rather ridiculous promotional message being put out is that they're creating "Dadeland's South Beach sidewalk experience," but the design itself is has its basis in principals of good urbanism, namely walkability, density, mixing of uses (technically it qualifies), and the planned transformation of Downtown Kendall into what will someday be immediately recognizable as a very urban "downtown."
