The Freehand Miami Beach Will Be A Really Cool Hostel

Miami Beach's Indian Creek Hotel, a sleepy little joint with some interesting architecture, is being turned into The Freehand, an upscale hostel by Andrew Zobler, the developer of the Ace Hotels in New York and Palm Springs and Roman And Williams, the architects of the Ace New York. This communal-living place for unmoneyed cool people will be open in time for Art Basel Miami Beach this December, with rates for a shared room beginning at $50 a night. "Think seaside boathouse, lifeguard school, a homemade summer camp near the ocean," says designer Robin Standefer, of Roman And Williams. "It's not a place with cheap beds to just crash in." Oh, yeah, and bookings through the Freehand's website began on Sunday.
