While new buildings are being constructed by the likes of Rem Koolhaas and Norman Foster next door to the historic Saxony Hotel, developer Alan Faena has commissioned none other than the interior designers of New York City's Ace and Standard Hotels, Roman And Williams, to do the restoration and interiors of the Saxony itself. Faena, as grand conducter of his architectural orchestra, will then have built a campus of architectural fantasias, filled in with lushly overgrown landscaping by Miami's very own Raymond Jungles. Construction, expected to take 20 months, has just begun. Meanwhile, Roman and Williams are busy with more work in Miami Beach, designing the latest thing in eclectic youth hostelries, The Freehand.
