Donald J. Pliner's Bonkers Moroccan Manse Returns To Market

New, 1 comment

That was fast! Faster than DSW can keep the shoes in stock, no doubt: after selling for $14.325M in April, Donald J. Pliner's old Star Island manse is back on the market with a fresh new ask. This time around, seller Paul Cejas, a Cuban-born businessman who served as the Ambassador to Belgium under the Clinton Administration, is asking $19.999M for Villa Stella, as the 10,000-square-foot Moroccan property is known. Despite the fact that the Pliners first listed the place for $24M in 2011 and were subsequently forced to chop nearly $10M off that price in order to sell it, Cejas is hoping for a $5M flip? As some of Curbed's more fashion-y friends might say about Pliner's footwear: never gonna happen!

The vibrantly colored Villa Stella boasts the sort of amenities one might naturally associate with Star Island, where celebs such as Shaquille O'Neal, Will Smith, Rosie O'Donnell, Madonna, Alex Rodriguez, P.Diddy, and Sylvester Stallone all have homes: 100 feet of waterfront, a dock, and a swimming pool, plus Venetian-stuccoed walls, a 35-foot-tall domed ceiling, and other details "designed by an Italian sculptor." When Pliner owned it, the estate also included some of his exotic—and, frankly, incongruous—personal touches, culled from far-flung corners of the globe. The Moroccan architecture met with antler chandeliers, enormous elephant murals, and slip-covered Balinese furniture, but who knows whether or not Cejas has removed those more exotic traces in hopes of finding the right deep pocketed buyer.
