Publix's Wing Thing Throughout History

Nostalgia abounds, with a weird postmodern twist, at that new Publix supermarket under construction on Collins Avenue and 69th street, but eclectic grocery stores have always been their bag, baby. Publix, Miami's hometown grocers (Okay, they're outside Miami too, but they're a Miami store more than anywhere else), used to don all of their stores with a soaring wing motif above the front entrance, that the new Collins Avenue store is cheekily referring to. Pleasant Family Shopping, a blog chronicling chain stores of the past, has put together a series of lengthy posts on Publix, with lots of shots of those fabulous wings, and some really nutty Publix interiors. A few of the dozens of pictures they have are above, including a deli counter in a circus tent.
