Half The Design District Is Gone, But Coming Back

New, 3 comments

Just west of the Design District's first crop of luxury retail, blocks and blocks have been demolished in preparation for the rest of the neighborhood's soon-to-come construction campaign. The old Locust Projects space? Gone. That weird building on 38th Street and 1st Avenue that kind of looked like a theater? Gone. Oak Plaza? Gone, gone, gone. Most of the moonscape-like barrenness is centered along NE 1st Street, but bits of demolition extend as far east as Biscayne Boulevard and practically all the way to North Miami Avenue, meekly hid by banners heralding a new Design District coming soon.
