Walmart wars

New, 11 comments

Miami commissioners approved a Walmart in the center of Midtown over objections that a big box store would clash with the rest of the carefully designed new neighborhood. The world's biggest retailer plans to build a 203,000-square-foot, three-story superstore, with 577 parking spaces and several loading bays on a site between Northeast 29th and 31st streets. Is it time to welcome, Walmart shoppers and the corporation's armies of underpaid associates? Not so fast. After four years of battle, Grant Stern and his band of opponents pledge to take the matter to court. [Miami Herald; Curbed Miami previous coverage]
