20 Most Expensive NYC Sales of the Year; Celebrity Real Estate

The latest New York City real estate goings-on from our sister site Curbed NY...

1) All Over, But Mostly Around Central Park: The most expensive residential sale in New York City this year was a $42 million penthouse in new development 18 Gramercy Park West, but that wasn't the only blockbuster. Check out this map of the 20 Most Expensive Sales of 2013.

2) Primarily Downtown: It was also, as always, a fun year for celebrities buying expensive properties. Among the highlights were Neil Patrick Harris buying a Harlem townhouse, Cameron Diaz snapping up a unit in Chelsea's hottest new condo tower, and a very weird story involving a penthouse owned by Yoko Ono.

3) Soho: Speaking of celebrities, the ConEd station-turned-townhouse where Beyonce shot the music video for "Halo" is available to rent at $80,000/month, down from the $100,000/month it was originally asking. Fortunately, the brick walls were not built by Beyonce herself, so no need to worry about them tumbling down.

4) Upper East Side: One of the city's most expensive apartments, the three-floor penthouse atop the Pierre Hotel, had its price reduced by $30 million. Now it only costs $95 million, so it should have buyers lining up around the block.
