Neighborhood Beefs

Adjacent to Young Circle, Hollywood's Town House Apartments have seen better days. Just ask the residents facing down a Dec. 31 deadline to clear out. Decrepit and unpopular with local pols as the 12-story tower seems to be, however, the 20 or so holdouts say better there than the Dante's Inferno that is South Florida high-season winter rental market. The building, at 1776 Polk St., will be demolished to develop a luxe apartment-shopping-boutique hotel combo. Legal Aid attorneys representing the holdout residents say the city must give each household still hanging onto a condemned home $5,000. Happy hunting, indeed. [Sun Sentinel]
