A few months behind schedule but just in time for the cash-hemorrhaging crowds descending on Miami, a construction crane has finally been installed at the site of the Baltus House project, Related Group's 167-unit condo that will be completely decked out with Jorge Perez's fave furniture maker: the Baltus Collection of Spain. (Perez hired Baltus to do the interior design of one of his penthouses.)
The 1960s-era office building adapted by architects Cohen Freedman Encinosa will also feature the work of Spanish artist Lluis Barba, a floor-to-ceiling painting with elements of Guernica digitally superimposed, also hand-picked by Perez. We think this whole having a museum named after him thing is perhaps getting to the Related chief's head. But hey, everybody's doing it, so why shouldn't he?
