Did you know Carl Fisher, the builder of Miami Beach, almost did the same thing for Montauk, Long Island? Having done Miami Beach by then, Fisher went north, bought the entire peninsula of Montauk, and built a 250 room hotel, auditorium, bathing casino, etc. etc. He even painted the sidewalks pink, just like in Miami Beach.
