Miami's stale, overpriced (twice as expensive as New York!), over-regulated, and outmoded taxicab industry could see some big-time reform very soon, if major county legislation being considered today passes. Imagine eliminating the monopolistic, driver-disenfranchising medallion system in favor of an annual licensing fee, allowing private car services like in New York, credit card readers, newer cars, such luxuries as drivers dressed like driverschauffeurs and opening car doors for passengers, and even (rest our beating hearts) Miami getting Uber.
