The owner of an overgrown lot in South Beach has proposed building a mixed-use development that looks a bit like a tiny version of Herzog & de Meuron's 1111 Lincoln Rd. parking garage just up the road. Maybe that's Alton Road's 'new look.' The project will have 8,500 square feet of retail on the bottom floor and 20 residential units stacked on top. Idea Architecture renderings show couples enjoying their balconies overlooking Alton Road, which would be less glamorous than it looks considering that they would be facing a traffic-choked thoroughfare, a laundromat and an ugly office building; basically a dysfunctional street scene in desperate need of a pedestrian friendly, aesthetically pleasing upgrade
