The Breakers, Palm Beach's grand dame of luxurious old hotels, is suing a little surf-shack hotel about to open in Narragansett called 'The Break' because, well, they think the name sounds too similar and might confuse travelers mentally not-there enough to confuse Rhode Island with Palm Beach. The idea of a bunch of socialites with blank looks on their faces going "I don't think we're in Palm Beach anymore" apparently scares the bajeezess out of them, but here's the kicker: the name 'The Breakers' was first applied to a lavish Newport, R. I. house built by the Vanderbilts that's now a museum. Take that Breakers! [GossipExtra; Breakers coverage]
