The Most Famous Starchitect Parking Garage Ever is Growing

New, 2 comments

Game changing, iconic 1111 Lincoln Road, perhaps the most famous parking garage in the world, is having an especially sweet moment in the limelight. The structure has just won the inaugural MCHAP Award, the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize, a fantastic and very prestigious architectural honor. It's also planning a little addition out back. The new structure, which is going in the SunTrust Bank parking lot, will be designed by Herzog & de Meuron, with a style that mirrors the white SunTrust building next to it, with a few more flourishes.

Developer Robert Wennett told Curbed that the design, if approved by the City of Miami beach, has retail spaces as well as a restaurant with outdoor dining on the ground floor, and two large courtyard townhouses on the second. (it will not, as earlier reported, have a bank downstairs, and residential upstairs) The restaurant's dining area will be sort of a sheltered courtyard in the rear, much like the outdoor dining at Mandolin in the Design District. The entire design is meant to enhance the pedestrian experience of Lincoln Lane North, also known as the alley behind Lincoln Road, as well as Lenox Avenue, the cross street.
