Historic Lapidus Hotel May Get A Starchitectural Replacement

New, 1 comment

According to multiple sources familiar with the project, the Terra Group's plans for the Dezerland Hotel, originally called the Biltmore Terrace and designed by Morris Lapidus and Albert Anis, in North Beach have pretty much completely changed. And there's a new big name involved: starchitect Renzo Piano.

While they had originally planned to preserve the postwar hotel, and add a condo tower designed by Shulman+Associates to the adjacent northern lot, Terra is now considering demolition of the entire site (the hotel is not historically designated) and erecting two or three new towers by Mr. Piano.
