In a last minute, mid-holiday commission meeting, Megaproject Miami Worldcenter's developers just got a big boost from the city, having been granted millions in tax subsidies from the city, possibly amounting to $88 million over twelve years, in exchange for agreeing to hire a certain number of employees from certain neighborhoods locally, and as an incentive to build in the still-very-seedy neighborhood. Some of it will go towards funding infrastructure, while another chunk will help build a parking garage. [Miami Herald; Miami Worldcenter coverage]
