It's official. Coconut Grove's Business Improvement District (BID) voted overwhelmingly in favor of their boring, unoriginal, totally blah new slogan The Nearby Republic of Coconut Grove Est. 1873 in a board meeting earlier today. The slogan, developed as part of an $85,000 marketing campaign for the Central Grove, is a play on Key West's alter-ego as The Conch Republic, and perhaps also the oft-made critique of Miami as a Banana Republic (think Woody Allen's "Bananas" as opposed to seer-sucker boat shorts).
