With the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicting an extreme high tide next October that could wallop Miami Beach with 1.2 feet in extra floodwater, Beach officials declared an emergency last week, which allows them to skirt certain procedural norms in order to quickly build some additional pump stations and get the damn construction work on Alton Road over and done with STAT. Alton Road now has an expected finish date of next December, far ahead of its previously scheduled deadline of Summer 2015 but sadly several months after the apocalyptic flood NOAA is predicting.
