Archaeologists say the two-acre parcel that's slated to become Met Square, a 34-story hotel, restaurants and movie theaters, is not only the biggest Tequesta Indian site every found but also likely among the most significant prehistoric sites in the U.S. of A. "You can actually see this extraordinary configuration of these buildings and structures,'' says lead archaeologist Bob Carr on the foundations, dwellings and walkways uncovered in the dig. The city of Miami already approved zoning and development of Met Square, but held off on issuing a final building permit until what lies below could be fully understood. [Miami Herald; Previously]
