"Royal palms ARE used far too much, but I agree with Sean, in this case it would be very historically appropriate. That said, no reason they can't mix them with shady native oaks and -- why does nobody want to plant slash pines as street trees? They're amazing and as a native, signify to me that "Florida" feel as much as a mangrove.
