Art Basel is making the first day of the fair, Wednesday, for VIPs only this year and moving the Vernissage, which itself has always been an 'invite only' event, to Thursday morning. The official reason is so "galleries can spend quality time with existing and potential patrons" on the first day, which probably means they're trying to keep the hoi palloi masses of Vernissage invitees at bay while the real art selling happens.
