A building that takes environmental sustainability to the utmost extreme (like wayyy past LEED super-platinum extreme) is coming to Wynwood, courtesy of environmental pioneers Nando and Blair Jaramillo and their two adorable toddlers, according to the Miami New Times. Called Colony1, it will be a "Living Building" and, unlike a living wall, or living room, will be designed to be sustainable to the extent that it actually takes care of itself with things like "sustainable architecture, sustainable energy, sustainable water", which is a little vague on the precise details, but we'll take their words for it.
According to the Jaramillos, Colony1 will be only the 15th 'Living Building' in the entire world. Once it's complete, in about two years, Colony1 will house the Jaramillos' organization, the 'Art of Cultural Evolution', with artist and scientist residency programs, a vegan chef school, a bulk food store, a community garden, classes, and workshops.
