Second Coconut Grove Playhouse Proposed Behind the First

New, 1 comment

While restoration and reopening plans for the Coconut Grove Playhouse steam ahead at full speed, a performing arts supporter who is involved with the Adrienne Arsht Center, and was involved with the playhouse before it shuttered in 2009, Mike Eidson, is leading a proposal to build a second and larger playhouse in the parking lot behind the original (the same parking lot in which the Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In is now located).

The 750 seat auditorium (the current playhouse has 300 seats) would have its own building and entrance, and would be programmed by the Arsht Center with bigger theatrical acts than what the current house can host. It would be a large regional theater, as compared to the smaller playhouse's more 'boutique' operation, and be totally a big deal for the Grove.
