Flagler Village Gets Snazzy Affordable Housing

Simple lines, appropriate scale, lack of unnecessary detail, and a white-centric color palette (although it could use a pop of color) are some of the features that possibly make Village Place one of the best looking new residential projects in Flagler Village. O.K., maybe that's an exaggeration, but honestly, it is simple, it is cool and manages to be 'affordable' despite its more well-to-do surroundings.

This mid-rise, urban infill complex is currently under construction across the street from luxury condominiums Bamboo Flats, located at the northern end of Flagler Village where density hasn't caught up yet with Flagler Village's more urban southern flanks, at the corner of 4th Avenue and NE 7th Street. Village Place occupies a 1.08 acres site and will offer 112 units of one and two bedrooms as early as December 2014, according to South Florida-based developer Housing Trust Group. Targeted at 'active seniors' (a depressingly PC term that encompasses everyone from late-middle-age, to one step from the nursing home) over 55, amenities will include a clubhouse, gym, library, outdoor courtyard and rooftop pool.—Glenda Puente
