Here's a theory why the country's most expensive residential listing, at $139 million, is in Broward County, where no other house has ever sold for anywhere near that much: although currently under construction, 'Le Palais Royal' wasn't originally meant to be sold.
According to the listing agent, William D.B. Pierce, the owner intended it "as a palace for his family", thus building it where he or she wanted, and not where a price like that might necessarily make sense. Then he or she spent a bundle on it, and has priced it high enough to make their money back.
