The spectacular Mediterranean Revival house at 3529 St. Gaudens Road that's become a cause celebre for historic preservationists and neighbors in Coconut Grove emerged victorious from yesterday's City of Miami Historic Preservation Board meeting where not only did the Kiehnel & Elliott-designed house win a unanimous vote to pursue preservation by the board, but much of the rest of St. Gaudens Road could go along with it. "We are absolutely of the opinion there is more to be designated on this block" said board member Megan Schmitt, who is looking to designate neighboring homes either individually or as part of a small historic district. The vote extends a freeze on demolition until city planners prepare an historic designation report for the house and the board makes final decision on designation.
