Despite South Florida not being known for a standout school system, recent findings from CoreLogic show the area compares favorably nationwide when factoring in affordable housing with quality elementary schools.

The study involved looking at over 7,000 zip codes throughout the U.S. and ranking them according to median price to buy a home with elementary schools in the area that posted above-average state test scores.

South Florida ranked fourth in the country - trailing Phoenix, Detroit, and Chicago - with 20 affordable zip codes with at least one quality school.

The following five areas led the way (median home price in parenthesis).

1. Miami Gardens ($92,000)
2. Delray Beach ($105,000)
3. Doral ($149,000)
4. Hollywood ($149,995)
5. Homestead ($158,000)

Unfortunately, Miami Gardens is not the safest area and was ranked America's fifth most dangerous suburb by Movoto last year.
