The Faena Hotel opened its doors Tuesday after the much-anticipated birth of the Faena Arts District in Miami Beach, a $1 billion project from 32nd to 35th street. Alan Faena's latest gem went all-out with last night's soft-opening, featuring Gone But Not Forgotten by Damian Hirst, a nine-foot gilded skeleton of a wooly mammoth in the garden among other glamorous works of art.
Hotel reservations for the general public won't become available until Dec. 21 after their "preview experience" wraps. It's the first hotel in South Florida to offer butler service and daily rates start at a whopping $700-plus throughout the year.

"Miami was always about fantasy," Faena said, via the Miami Herald. "We are trying to bring back that glorious moment of fantasy and glamor but to create it in a modern way."

The hotel's sold-out Faena House condo set a record earlier this fall with a $60-million penthouse sale.
