CitiBike is about to undergo a City of Miami Beach-wide replacement of the bicycle sharing service's old DecoBike system which will upgrade its equipment, functionality, and bicycle fleet, finally making it compatible with all those modern new bikeshare kiosks and shiny blue bicycles they just installed Downtown. Yes, now that Miami has barely survived two months since the expansion's launch day with two completely incompatible bikeshare systems on opposite sides of Biscayne Bay, CitiBike will finally be whole, according to a notice sent to members. Commuting across the Venetian Causeway by bicycle, anyone?
Replacement of the four-year-old beach kiosks will start February 16th (UPDATE: The it's been pushed back until after the boatshow, and will be Feb 20th to March 3rd), with approximately eight new kiosks a day, and will apparently include some nice upgrades. Key fobs were mentioned. Along with everything however, even your old DecoBike membership will also be incompatible, which means it's about to be canceled, and they'll let you know how to sign up for a new one. It comes with a free month to make up for the inconvenience.
