The thisclose to opening 1 Hotel & Homes South Beach may or may not have been on fire about 45 minutes ago, as evidenced by quite the show of smoke and flashing fire alarms that were plainly visible to passerby in front of the Collins Avenue building (unfortunately the photo above doesn't really capture it). A representative of the project immediately reached for comment was at first understandably shocked, and then followed up by saying it was just smoke testing with the fire department. Curbed consulted a few people familiar with construction, and came to the conclusion that, well, that reply may or may not have just been the well oiled marketing machine at work.
