Historic preservationists, as well as neighbors to the north in the Setai, are up in arms against the latest proposed alterations to the Shore Club. The old plans, by architect Isay Weinfeld and architects of record ADD Inc. (renderings above and below), were deferred at last month's preservation board meeting due to these objections, and revised plans are expected to go before the board tomorrow.
They involve demolishing the adjacent historic eight story Cromwell Hotel, building a 'monolithic' five story structure that would include conference rooms, a gym, and spa, the elimination of a service area along 20th street, changes in the lobby, and of course the layering the tower (which itself isn't historic, yet, but is iconic) in a new skin of balconies.
