Old Senator Hotel Site Finally Alive With New Construction

New, 2 comments

The Senator Hotel at Collins Avenue and 12th Street was the Pennsylvania Station of Miami Beach's art deco preservation movement, and since its sad martyrdom decades ago has been replaced by nothing more than a parking lot. Now that parking lot, along with lot across the street and two remaining art deco buildings to the north, is finally being upended, probably with a design worthy of being the Senator's replacement. In the last real estate boom, before the crash of 2008, Shulman + Associates designed a collection of buildings, with Kobi Karp as Architect of Record, inspired by the memory of the Senator that were permitted but never built, although it appears the permits were kept valid by developers and those designs are probably what are now being built.
