Despite earlier reports to the contrary, including from the center's own website, the redo of the Miami Beach Convention Center won't break ground now until late December, and that's if everything goes according to plan, which it hardly ever does. The City Manager will bring the final negotiated cost of the project to the commission in October, which is expected to be under the $500 million budgeted, and if approved (yeah, they still need to do that too) that will set the stage for a December beginning of construction. Meanwhile the planned hotel is an entirely different thing. The Miami Herald has a full recap of the situation. Hey, at least it would begin after Art Basel.
