The 2016 Curbed Cup, our annual award for the South Florida’s neighborhood of the year, is kicking off with 16 areas vying for the prestigious (fake) trophy. This week we'll have two matchups per day, and all the results and the full tournament bracket will be reviewed on Friday. Voting for each pairing ends 24 hours after it begins. Let the eliminations commence!
Note: The full bracket will be unveiled on Friday. Keep track of everything Curbed Cup here.
(1) Coconut Grove
Our No. 1 overall seed is Coconut Grove, rewarded for winning the 2015 Curbed Cup in South Florida as a No. 9 seed, taking out Coral Gables, Brickell, South Beach, and Sunset Harbour in one of the more shocking developments across the network.
The extremely walkable area south of Brickell returns as our top dog, armed with a slew of fantastic parks, excellent restaurant options, some standout homes (like Hammock House), and one of Miami’s hottest new developments in Grove at Grand Bay.
(16) Hollywood
Hello there, potential Cinderella neighborhood.
Hollywood is stifling with new development, offers solid value compared to Miami and Fort Lauderdale, and as reader Zeus notes, it’s "a nice walkable urban environment with lots of shops galleries and restaurants" in addition to its "beautiful collection of older historic homes."
Will this be our first massive upset of the tournament?
