Could a 'Pod Hotel' Be Coming to South Beach?

Featuring "micro-rooms."

A seven-story hotel with "micro-units" is planned for South Beach around 9th Street and Washington Avenue, per The Next Miami, with Estis, LLC and 955 Washington Ownership, LLC planning to partially tear down a historic structure.

Beach commissioners are scheduled to vote today on revising city code for hotel unit size, but it isn’t clear if it is related.

... Miami Beach’s Historic Preservation Board approved the tower at a meeting yesterday.

It's unclear whether the project is targeting rooms similar to the ones offered at the Pod Hotel in New York, with some measuring up at 100 square feet. Their rooms start in the mid 100s.

Then there are hotels with legitimate pods like the ones at The Pod in Singapore, which have the look of a high-end hostel.

It's an interesting concept for an area where the cost of one night at some hotels equates to a month's rent. The architect on the project is Urban Robot Associates. Check out the detailed plans here.
