In a somewhat mild surprise Miami didn't rank among the top few major U.S. cities to own a boat, coming in at a respectable but sub-elite No. 7 in a study by Smart Assist:
7. Miami, Florida
When it comes to ritzy boat culture, it is hard to top Miami. There are of course numerous privately-owned yachts, but there is also a large fleet of charter yachts in Miami. Chartering a 45’ yacht for a day costs around $2,500, plus sales tax of 7% and a tip for the crew.
The methodology: sales tax rate, median annual housing costs, water area, warm weather days, and water area per 100,000 residents.
After honing in on the largest 200 cities, five Florida cities ranked in the top seven, with Saint Petersburg ranking the highest at No. 2, behind Brownsville, TX.
