As if Miamians weren’t already freaking out about Zika in Wynwood, a new "Zika Zone" has been announced for Miami Beach, covering 1.5 square miles from 8th Street to 28th Street.
The news was announced early Friday afternoon by Governor Rick Scott amid five new locally transmitted Zika cases on Miami Beach.

The state will not put out a travel advisory for the new area, leaving the decision in the hands of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
While much of the fears are a bit of an overreaction if you take the necessary precautions like using mosquito repellent, there’s doubt the hotel and hospitality industry is going to take a dip on South Beach, just as businesses have suffered in Wynwood.
