The 35,000-square-foot permanent home for the Institute of Contemporary Art has topped off in the Miami Design District.
Planned to open in late 2017, the independently funded three-story museum will include a 20,000-square-foot exhibition space and a 15,000 square feet sculpture garden.
"The new ICA Miami will be a cultural anchor and gathering place for the Design District, a forum for the exchange of ideas, and an exhibition space for established and emerging artists," says ICA Miami Director Ellen Salpeter. "Our new home will also help catalyze the Miami Design District – and continue to elevate our neighborhood into an internationally known cultural destination."
The museum was designed by Spain’s Aranguren & Gallegos Arquitectos, the team’s first project in the United States. The ICA is currently operating its program in the Moore Building at 4040 Northeast Second Ave.
Miami Design District Associates donated much of the land while Irma and Norman Braman provided a large capital gift.
