Miami condo king Jorge Perez says he was invited by President Donald Trump to help build a wall along the Mexico-U.S. border shortly after the inauguration but that he politely declined, while describing the plan as “idiotic” in an interview with Bloomberg:

“The wall is the most idiotic thing I’ve ever seen or heard in my life,” said Perez, who was raised in Colombia by Cuban parents. “A wall for what? You think a wall is going to stop people that are hungry? Good employment in Mexico, economic growth in Mexico, equality is going to stop people from coming over the border.”

The Related Group CEO with a net worth in the billions is one of the most notable architects of Miami’s new, evolving skyline. He’s also currently developing several projects in Mexico.

Perez says the wall could negatively impact not only the relations between both countries but inflict harm to their economies.
