CIVIQ Smartscapes, joined by Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Giménez, unveiled their first WayPoint at Government Center in downtown Miami as part of their plan to implement a fully integrated smart city ecosystem throughout the county.
The entire project entails the installation and maintenance of up to 300 interactive digital kiosks, which will include free high-speed public Wi-Fi; over 1,000 Wi-Fi devices in public transit vehicles; and 50 additional Wi-Fi devices for transit stations.
The project won’t cost taxpayers a penny, as CIVIQ will fund the $20 million to initiate the program and generate revenue off digital ads on the kiosks, with Miami-Dade receiving a revenue share.
“When technology and transportation come together, Miami-Dade County becomes a richer community with more opportunities,” Mayor Giménez said. “This new partnership with CIVIQ Smartscapes is one additional step toward our County becoming a smart city.”
Waypoints will continue to be installed over the next couple years.
