What New York City’s median rent ($2950) gets you in Miami

We thought it’d be fun to take the current one-bedroom median asking rent in New York City—$2,950, according to the latest Zumper rent report—and apply it toward an apartment search in Miami.

This exercise was designed solely to make New Yorkers feel bad about themselves and their cramped living conditions...

Just kidding. It’s all in good fun of course. And that header image is obviously not a $2900 Miami rental but rather a $17 million condo. Maybe $2900 would get you a few nights?

While the typical Miami apartment in a coveted area isn’t exactly super affordable it’s important to realize it’s still all relative, as indicated by the tears streaming from NYC residents who regrettably chose to check out this Curbed Comparisons.

Brickell: 2101 Brickell Avenue #1822

The most affordable apartment on our list at $2,700, this 1,367-square-foot residence in south Brickell offers two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a beautiful bay view, and plenty of amenities.

Coconut Grove: 2655 S Bayshore Drive #515

Located in a very walkable portion of Coconut Grove is this 1,080-square-foot apartment in the new Bayshore Grove. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances. The ask is $2,849.

Downtown: 244 Biscayne Blvd #3702

This 1,203-square-foot corner unit in the heart of downtown Miami features dreamy views of the bay, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and stellar amenities that include four pools and a huge fitness center. It’s asking $2,850.

Edgewater: 2900 Northeast 7th Avenue #404

Listed at $2,950, here’s a one-bedroom with two bathrooms and a den inside Edgewater’s Biscayne Beach, one of Miami’s newest buildings. It sizes up at 1,154 square feet and boasts some spectacular bay views.

Miami Beach: 5333 Collins Avenue #505

Our final unit may be the most alluring if living close to the beach checks your most desired box. Asking $2,950, the two-bed, two-bath is just over 1,000 square feet and includes a direct view of the beach. Furniture is included but optional ($100 less).
