Intertersting mandate

There’s a new Miami condo planned across the street from the main campus of Florida International University with a twist: While anyone can purchase its 492 units, only students, faculty, and those affiliated with the university will be allowed to live there.

University Bridge Residences is planned for 20 stories with a direct connection to campus via the new 8th Street pedestrian bridge. FIU has the fourth largest enrollment in the country with 55,000 students, trailing only UCF, Texas A&M, and Ohio State. Yet only 8 percent of students live in college-owned, operated, or affiliate housing.

I will say the prospect of potentially living next door to your teacher is a bit bizarre.

The project is expected to be completed before the 2020-2021 academic school year and units will be fully furnished, with washers and dryers in each residence. They range in size from 317 to 1,634 square feet and will be offered as studios, one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, three-bedrooms, and four-bedrooms.

Prices range from $190,000 to the high $600,000s and amenities include a resort-style pool with beach entry; a fitness center; and a 5,500-square-foot indoor lounge/game room. The rooftop will feature a sunset terrace with dining areas, a yoga lawn, and a performance stage. There will also be shared study areas on each residential floor.

University Developments is a partnership between Global City Development and Toronto-based Reichmann International and Podium Developments. Arquitectonica designed the project and Landmark Properties will manage the property upon completion.

There will be about 7,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor and the sales center, expected to open in the fall, is currently under construction at the site, located at 740 Southwest 109th Avenue in University City in Sweetwater.
